The second game of the day was against Streatham & Marlborough, who batted first in a 25 over game. Ashford thought they had an early breakthrough when there appeared to be a thin edge through to ‘keeper Rhianna Southby off Yolandi Maynier’s bowling, but the umpire seemed to be uncertain. Tammy Mattinson showed great sportsmanship by walking, a reassurance that the Spirit of Cricket is still alive and well. Sarah Taylor picked up another wicket, then Jenny Tippell broke the partnership which was causing Ashford concern. Ali McCreedy was the next bowler into the attack, and Tippell pulled off a spectacular diving catch for her first wicket. Not to be outdone, Hannah Merchant produced another great catch, leaving the visitors on 98.
The Ashford openers found the bowling very hard to score off, and fell way behind the required rate before Jenny Tippell started to get the measure of it. She hit five 4s on her way to retirement on 35, and Yolandi Maynier scored even faster at the other end, scoring 33 off only 27 balls. It was left to Katie Brown and Hannah Merchant to finish the job, Merchant doing so in style, the only two deliveries she faced both going to the boundary.
