Ashford carried on their fine winning streak with victories in two Surrey Trust matches in one day. The first opponents were Oxted & Limpsfield, who started well, keeping the run rate around six an over. The batsmen weren’t afraid to hit the ball in the air, which paid off for a while, but eventually led to the downfall of all the top order, catches taken by Gill Bonham, Becky Halls and Sarah Taylor.
Needing 105 to win from their 20 overs, Ashford got off to a bad start when Hannah Merchant was out to the third ball of the innings. However, Rhianna Southby got stuck into the bowling, 19 coming off only 24 balls. Becky Halls had joined her, and kept the scoreboard ticking over after Southby was unlucky to hit her own stumps, playing a shot down to the fine leg boundary. Sarah Taylor and Yolandi Maynier both added runs with Halls, and incredibly Maynier was also out hit wicket. Halls upped the pace as overs were running out, and with Gill Bonham, saw the side safely home with only two balls to spare.
