Jenny Tippell and Beth Evans got Ashford off to a steady start, batting first in this development league match. Katie Butler then began to up the pace, and when Hannah Merchant joined her, the pair added 74 in just 13 overs. Merchant continued her fine form from the previous game, finding the boundary with ease, and retired on 38 after only 29 balls.
Ashford struck early in the Epsom reply, skipper Angharad Purser picking up a wicket in her first over. Sarah Taylor then reduced the visitors to 6-2, Katie Brown taking a fine catch. Purser was soon back in the action, her throw running out the next batsman. Amber Cousens bowled a couple of good overs, and Brown bowled a very tidy spell, getting a well deserved wicket. Then Yolandi Maynier joined the attack. Her six overs cost only 7 runs, and produced three wickets, two of them sharp catches by Purser, which ended Epsom’s hopes of reaching their target.
