Jenny Tippel stars in Ashford win

Ashford got their first league win of the season in fine style, despite being a player short, with a superb performance at Rowledge. Batting first, Gill Bonham and Ali McCreedy got the innings off to a steady start before Bonham fell with the score on 28. Katie Butler and McCreedy then started to increase the run rate, with Butler playing some fine drives. When she was joined by Jenny Tippell, the scoring continued to flow, and they had added 69 together when Butler was bowled for 37. Tippell was happy to take on all the bowlers, and was well supported by Beth Evans and Angharad Purser, as the runs kept on coming. The final over of the innings finally brought Rowledge the wicket of Tippell, whose career best 91 came off only 93 balls, and was largely responsible for the Ashford total of 194.

The Rowledge reply got off to the worst of starts, as Tippell carried on with the ball where she had left off with the bat, reducing them to 10-3, all clean bowled. The other bowlers provided good support, especially Yolandi Maynier and Hannah Merchant, and all through the innings the fielders kept on top of things, with Nazia Sadiq particularly sharp, and debutant Wendy Britz showing good promise. Rowledge were not able to recover, despite a patient 50 from Captain Sophie Cooper, and they fell further and further behind the required run rate. Tippell picked up her fourth wicket with her last delivery, her 8 overs going for only 7 runs, and victory was secured for Ashford.

An outstanding all round performance from Jenny Tippell, and a very satisfactory day for the whole team.
