Ashford U11's put up a valiant effort

Ashford U11's went to Hampton Hill already two players short. Things then started to get worse at 6pm scheduled start of play there were only five players at the ground. frantic phone calls ensued and 3 players were struggling to find the ground.

We agreed to start at 6:20 regardless of how many players we had.

We batted first and with sensible batting we made 79 for 3 off of our 20 overs during which another of our players managed to find the ground.
We then took to the field with just 6 players including a wicket keeper with no experience. With the third ball going for 6 wides and 9 off the first over, I was thinking this may be a short game, but due to some fantastic bowling and fielding with one over to go Hampton Hill were 7 wickets down and still needing 8 runs to win. By the time the last ball came the batting side needed 2 to win. The bowler bowled the ball and all the batsman could do was bat it back to the bowler, alas that's where it all went wrong with the bowler shying at the stumps, missing, and our mid on fielder not being able to get round to back up in time the batsmen ran through for the two the needed.

I have not named any of the juniors who played as it would be unfair to single out any as they all played brilliantly.

Thanks to those who got to the game and those who tried. Lets look forward to the second half of the season as we now know there is no team in our league when we all turn out and play like we did on Thursday we cannot beat.
