General Report
For once, the Devon Tour was blessed with endless sunshine. The fixtures were never in doubt but the possibility of, and reality of, sunburn was always a real danger.
Temperatures rose close to 30 degrees, but nowhere near as hot as back home in Surrey.
A large touring party of 28 players and 33 supporters played four very enjoyable matches in South Devon and with the numbers available everyone had the opportunity to explore the area, visit the many tourist attractions in the area, to swim, to play crazy golf, to sample new restaurants and bars plus to browse in the many shops available in the locality.
In short, everyone had a great time, and all four hosting clubs are keen for us to feature in 2027. Let’s hope the weather is similar next year.
Match Report
**Thorverton CC v Ashford CC Tour XI – Ashford won by 28 runs**
The tour party reconvened at our regular first fixture at the picturesque ground at Thorverton. The touring XI elected to bat first and the first four balls of the innings were promptly dispatched to the boundary by Abhinandan Saini. Wickets fell at regular intervals through the innings, but Abhinandan anchored the innings with 86 at nearly 2 runs per ball faced. Muhammad Hussain Malik contributed a useful brisk 54 before retiring and there were also runs for captain Afzaal Afridi and Gurpal Hundal. We were finally dismissed for 248 in the 39th over.
The defence of our score started will with an economic spell from Fahim Mir. The opener was dismissed by Aftab bowling spin in the 90s. But wickets fell regularly during the reply with Ashish Singh taking three wickets, his figures being slightly tarnished by their overseas coming in at 11 and launching into a full blown attack from 15 balls, 9 of which went to the boundary although the game was out of reach before he came in.
The whole tour party socialised with the opposition after the game. A good game played in the right spirit and captained well by both leaders.
Match Report
**Devon Dumplings CC v Ashford CC Tour XI – Ashford won by 22 runs**
Ashford Tour XI continued their successful Devon tour with a hard fought 22-run victory over Devon Dumplings CC at Shobrooke Park.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Ashford posted 191 all out from 34.1 overs. Following an early wobble at 30-3, a crucial innings of 50 from Gurpal Hundal steadied the ship with skipper Navjot Sidhu (28) and Ian Doggett (21) added valuable runs.
Late fireworks from Mansoor Malik, who blasted 27 from just 9 balls, helped push the total close to 200.
Ashford's bowlers then produced a disciplined display to restrict the Dumplings to 169-8 from their 40 overs. Abhinandan Saini led the attack with excellent figures of 2-17 from eight overs, while Ibrahim Khalid, Rajesh Sharma, Mansoor Malik and Elliott Axten each claimed a wicket. Despite an unbeaten 71 from Jasper Bubb keeping the hosts in contention, Ashford maintained control throughout the chase and secured a deserved victory.
The win made it two victories from two tour matches and reflected another strong all-round team performance from the Tour XI.

Kwik Cricket at Seaton Report
Prior to the game against Seaton, the outfield was taken over for some cricket playing opportunities for the non-playing members of the tour party.
Some seven children and a non-playing adult joined with four players for a softball game that proved quite competitive.
Adult Players had to bat ‘wrong’ handed and needed to catch one handed. It gave the opportunity for some practice and some of the children received some useful coaching tips.
There was some tension with siblings playing against siblings.
Overall, a good time was had by all with a lot of laughter.

TO BE ADDED
Match Report
**Sidbury CC v Ashford CC Tour XI – Sidbury won by 4 wickets**
Following a day of glorious weather when the tour party enjoyed many different activities across South Devon including swimming and paddling in the still very chilly sea and some general sightseeing, the tour party convened at the picturesque Sidbury ground for an evening 20 over match.
Captain for the day Ben Simper duly won the toss and decided that we would bat first. Unfortunately, wickets fell regularly. Salik Chaman (transferred from spectator to player for this match) scored 46 on his debut for Ashford at a healthy strike rate of nearly 140 including 7 boundaries and the ever reliable Chris Lunn who contributed 19 at nearly a run per ball made the score into a reasonable 90 for us to try and defend.
Chris Lunn was again the hero for Ashford with the ball this time, taking 3 for 7 in 4 miserly overs. Wickets were also taken by Callum and the skipper but unfortunately, our total was chased with the opposition 6 down with 20 balls to spare.
After the match, our hosts provided an excellent barbeque and the whole party stayed to socialise. It felt like a very nice day and Sidbury made their guests feel very welcome. Thanks to Mark for umpiring and Chris Evans for scoring.
Overall, a great tour which everyone enjoyed.
Roll on 2027.
