Match Report from game week 2 of the Indoor League see's Ashford remain top

The first indoor game this week was against Twickenham, and Ashford found it hard going as their opponents made good use of the extra hall size to score off almost every ball. Despite scoring only 2 boundaries, Twickenham posted a formidable total of 93. Jenny, Elize and Katie made sure Ashford kept in touch with the required rate, and the last two overs found them needing 30 to win. Katie's retirement with 8 balls to go brought Ali in to join Sarah, and somehow they had to get 21 off the last over. The pair didn't panic, and a couple of early no balls eased the pressure. They managed to get runs off every ball, and brought Ashford over the line with two balls to spare.

Problems with the matting meant the second game, against Epsom, was played on bare floor, which made it trickier to score, the ball keeping lower, and going through a bit quicker. Epsom batted soundly, hitting the walls, and picking up a few boundaries, but the bats were reluctant to take any chances with runs. Young Katie was the pick of the Ashford bowlers, with not quite as young Katie on her game behind the stumps, taking two sharp stumpings. Chasing only 36, Ashford were mindful that they needed to be careful with the conditions. Epsom picked up a couple of wickets to keep the game interesting, but Katie, skipper for the night, led her side home with overs to spare, to open up a gap at the top of the table.

The final games next week will decide the Champions, Ashford and Twickenham both in with a shout. Ashford have the tougher finish, playing Shepperton first while Twickenham face Epsom, and inspired scheduling by Kim sees the two sides meet in the final match.
