Ladies Report 2009

On the field results have not gone our way, with only two league wins, and the possibility of relegation still hangs over us while the league committee assesses entries for next season. However, there are lots of positives to be taken from the summer. While our batting has been fragile, our bowling at times has been quite outstanding, and is increasingly backed up in the field. Jenny Tippell took her first senior five-wicket haul, and has just been named Surrey U13 player of the year. Hannah Merchant has improved all areas of her game, and has been noticed by the County. We have several new adult players, and all are improving. Becky Halls’ captaincy has been much more dynamic, and team spirit has remained good.

We started the year with a coach, Andy Doree, who put in a lot of work with us, but unfortunately could not continue. Thanks to Kevin Lambert, who stepped in to take practice sessions, and to everyone who helped by bowling to us in the nets. Steve Smith has been our regular umpire, and Helen Cook our scorer, and we couldn’t have managed without Bernard Tippell, who has taken over both umpiring and scoring when we’ve needed help. Last but not least, Becky’s Mum continues to produce teas which are the envy of all the men’s sides!
