A S H F O R D C R I C K E T C L U B 2nd XI Sunday & Friendly Report 2009 Played: 17; Won: 4; Lost: 12; Draw: 1 I took on the captaincy of the Sunday 2nd XI after a few games at the beginning of the season. This summer it was almost as hard to get a team out as it was to win a game. We struggled through lack of experience in the side with some weeks Dan Simper and me being the oldest players. On occasions Robert Smith provided years of cricketing knowledge and was happy to offer a helpful word in the ear of our bowlers. All of the Colts played well: Rishi Ghataore batted well at the top of the order and Dilgeet Guarav, though not the largest person at the crease, chipping in with some controlled hitting and top-class bowling. And the team would not have been the same with out Sandeep’s comments from ball one –all you could ever hear was him chirping away. In a memorably close 45-over game against Worcester Park we batted first and having been reduced to 111–7 Dilgeet and Anique put on a brilliant partnership of 71 that enabled us to post 192 and get back into the game. In reply Worcester Park had to bat until 44th over before reaching the target, thanks to tight bowling by Javaad Khan, Dilgeet, Rishi and Ian Doggett. I hope everyone who played for the team enjoyed the games, which I approached with the aim to ensure everyone plays a part in the match. I’d like to thank the Colts for playing and hope they continue to do so next year. Thanks too to Jock for helping me when he played and giving advice even when he wasn’t taking part, Dan for the excessive umpiring, and thank you to the parents who transported the team and scored at the games.
