2nd XI Sunday and Non League Report 2001

The season began and ended with optimism.

Firstly, I would like to thank my good friend Steve (The Scud) Adams for his able assistance throughout the season, acting as scorer, umpire and general minder and letting me know where his batting position should be. Usually up the order in front of me!

The highlights of the season are as follows:

We won a few games and finished fourth in the Sunday league. The youngsters played a major part in our successes and credit should go to the Colts section and those who coach them.

Adam Smith scored three centuries and one fifty and Luke Jackson, Trevor Langworth and Zane Hussain scored a fifty each. Matthew Adams and Wendell Sebastian featured in a fourth wicket stand of two hundred scoring a century each. Matthew, at only 13 is the youngest batsman to score a century in senior cricket in the clubs history. Matthew also put in a good bowling spell at Sutton- 9 overs for only 14 runs when Sutton was on a roll. The first 5 overs went for only one run.

Clearly Matthew will be one to watch in the future.

I would like to thank all the players who turned out regularly to play Sunday Second Eleven cricket this season. They have all helped to make it an enjoyable season with some success.

Trevor Allen (2nd XI Sunday Captain).
